Let's Get This Party Started

I love people.  Even when I am having a bad day and I feel I have seen the worst of humanity (which doesn't really happen that often:), it is usually a person that grabs me out of my whirlwind of frustration and plants me back on the ground.  A phone call is made to my boyfriend, my mother, or I read some good advice from someone I've never met.  A connection of empathy, a warm hug, or a soft word gets me back where I started, loving people.
One of the things I love the most about people is how unique we are.  Just when you think you've got your stereotypes down some cute old lady wants to talk to you about sex, a girl tells you she's comfortable with her weight, or a man wearing makeup starts talking about his girlfriend.  In my years of bartending and traveling I learned this one quick!  You think you know who is sitting up at the bar because of what they are wearing, their social status, or even their ethnicity and then you get handed your ignorance.  It's funny but that's how most of us roll!  These surprises are all part of the necessary cycle because they catch us off guard and give us the cold-bucket-o'water-in-the-face moment we all need from time to time.  Shocking, refreshing, humbling, cleansing...and makes your face contort unattractively.  It is in these moments that our closed-mindedness opens just a little.  We realize how unique each person is and that we need to lend a little grace every now and then.
It is my hope that in this blog I will receive some more of this opening of the mind and understanding with the added bonus of a sharpening of my writing skills. (another love of mine, if you didn't guess)  I am sending out a new insight or question into the universe each week awaiting anxiously the answers that find their way back.  Could be a cold splash in the face...could be a warm hug around my shoulders.  Either way it will be mind opening.
